Welcome to RetroPup!
This site will be a companion to my YouTube Channel. Here you’ll find guides, musings and recommendations about emulation, tech, retro gaming and more!
Who Am I?
I’m Alex and I’m a millennial geek and occasional stand-up comedian from the North West of the UK. I love gaming, technology, obscure horror movies, shouty music and animals.
In January 2026, I came across some Reddit posts asking questions about the device and how to do certain things (remove the gesture bar, hide the floating icon etc.). Rather than try to explain via text how to solve these problems, I thought “Why not just make a quick video?”. I’d had my channel since college and posted the occasional voiceless and faceless video but nothing serious. The feedback to these guides was pretty good and it inspired me to start making more videos. By Februrary I had met the requirements to join the Youtube Partner Program, which was something I never even envisioned. After struggling for many years with mental health issues and being diagnosed with ADHD, this felt like a sign that this was something I needed to invest time into and make a proper plan.
So here we are, at time of writing I have amassed just shy of 7700 subscribers and my view count has been growing steadily. The money I have made so far from YouTube has been reinvested into growing my channel and buying equipment to improve my videos. It’s been invaluable an invaluable learning experience and I’ve developed skills in video editing, thumbnail creation, community management and running a small business. Hopefully by next year I’ll be able to actually pay myself (or my mum for helping me set up and manage my finances).
My goal for this year is to reach 10000 subscribers, which I believe is pretty achieveable. However, like a lot of goals of this nature, I’m not going to tie my own self-confidence to what is, in essence, an abitrary number. But it would be nice!
If you’re not already subscribed then I’d humbly ask you to give that subscribe button a click and hit the notification bell. I’d love to be able to do this full time (as much as I enjoy my current job as an internal software developer for an engineering company) so that’s my long-term goal. Until then I’ve got debts to clear and videos to make so I’ll leave you to check out the channel and this website.
Just a final note, if you’ve ever wanted to become a make YouTube videos, the best thing to do is just start. The sooner you release videos the sooner you can learn and improve.
Thanks for reading and I hope you find the site helpful!
Alex x
